Over Active Bladder Treatments



An overactive bladder is the sudden contraction of the muscular walls of the bladder, causing one to have the urgent need to want to urine. It is a condition, where you find yourself hurrying off to the toilet every couple of minutes. It is also very common in old people, but can happen to anyone. However it should not be accepted as a natural condition to develop. An overactive bladder can also be referred to as incontinence.

It is a very embarrassing condition, and those who have it may become withdrawn and isolated. However if you visit a doctor they can determine the cause of your incontinence and start you on an over active bladder treatment. This may greatly relieve the symptoms and help you better cope with your daily life.

Symptoms And Causes Of A Over Active Bladder.

The symptoms may be-

* the sudden urge to urinate.

* often or frequent urination.

* an involuntary loss of urine.

* getting up in the middle of the night to urinate 2 or more times.

* urinating more than 8 times in a 24 hour day.

* Rashes in the pelvic region.

The causes may be-

* Psychological.

* Their may be domestic problems at home.

* Recent child birth.

* You may be dealing with a sudden loss that you finding hard to accept.

* Their may be a problem in your urinary tract such as the pelvic muscles no longer holding the bladder in place which can lead to an over active bladder.

* Damaged caused by accident.

* Diseases such as cancer.

* Some type of abdomen surgery.

* Old age.

If you are experiencing any of the above conditions you may need over active bladder treatment. Your doctor might recommend, an over active bladder treatment for you depending on your capabilities and current health.

You may receive rehabilitation of the pelvic muscles, to strengthen the muscles and prevent leakages or lost of control. This could be the over active bladder treatment for you. It includes-

* Kegel exercises- Is a regular daily exercise of the pelvic muscles by contracting and then relaxing the muscles. This is a common exercise practiced by pregnant women.

* Vaginal weight training - This is where small weights are held within the vagina by tightening the vagina muscles.

* Medication - You can be treated with medication such as Ditropan or Detrol. This is as easy as getting your doctor to write a prescription.

* Surgery – If your bladder control problem stems from your bladder slipping out of place in your body then surgery may be able to correct the problem.

* Using catheters – For sever bladder control problems the treatment of last resort is the use of catheters. Bladder infections are very common with this treatment and care must be taken to prevent them.

Another form of over active bladder treatment is Behaviour therapies. This is to help people regain control over their bladder by teaching them to avoid the urge to go constantly to the toilet. This is done by gradually extending the intervals between urinating.

No matter what over active bladder treatment you receive, prevention is best. So one should try to live a healthy lifestyle, with regular exercise, a good balanced diet, and limit your intake of coffee and alcoholic beverages. This could greatly help reduce the risk of getting an over active bladder.
